Currently the lowest cost 4GB DDR3 (2x2GB) kit of memory is $84.99 with free shipping at a major e-tailor. Although, there is no shortage of motherboards to support the AMD Athlon II series, which means you can have your pick of the litter in that department. Prices on motherboards range anywhere from $47.00 up to $185.00 so you can spend just about anything you want on it. It all depends on the features you are looking for.
Running at a total price of about $275.00, the system I used for testing has been a solid set-up. You would be able to lower that price using some lower cost parts and still have a solid system. If you are looking for a low cost system for gaming or for a daily driver to play around on the Internet, a system based around the AMD Athlon II X2 255 is quite possibly the right one for you. It is all going to come down to one simple rule; how fast do you want to go and how much do you want to spend?
If you are in the market for a dual core system like we tested here today, I would recommend the AMD Athlon II X2 255. While it may be a few dollars more than the Athlon II X2 240 is, I feel the 300MHz boost is a worthy investment. This is a great dual-core processor that is fast and easy on the budget!
