Intel Core i7-920 2.66GHz LGA 1366 Processor Reviews

Why spend more money? 3/27/2010

Pros: It Easy to Overclock this thing. Compare Intel Chips and the only difference are the GHz. Take some time and do a little research and learn how to OC - Get the most Bang for your buck with this chip. I've got a current OC at 3.5 GHz with air cooling and this is my first attempt at doing this. This chip cost me a fraction of the Extreme chip price and I am pushing a larger clock speed currently. This chip is powerful and efficient.

Cons: Nothing - I love this Chip

Other Thoughts: If you don't know how to Overclock a CPU please do your research first so you don't inadvertently fry your chip out. Lots of motherboards offer tools to do this and there is plenty of information on the internet - but even for beginners this chip is very resilient and capable of taking a lot of abuse. Low power consumption and efficient. If you plan on overclocking don't forget to get a capable CPU Heat-sink fan - The stock heat-sink just simply will not cool it correctly.
Where to Buy

Pros: Way beyond most peoples needs. Gains are about 31 % in synthetic tests over E8500. OC'd to 4.2 on auto with UD5. Gains were with PC1600 DDR3 RAM vs PC800 DDR2 RAM. Runs hot at anything 4.0 or over and throttles due to temp (at least on my MB)

Cons: Synthetic tests are only for people who have too much money and want to bragg, actual gain is about 10-15%, in actuality the Money vs performance comes into effect about the I7 920 and anything above is stupid on the curve dude.

Other Thoughts: I have noticed almost "NO" gain from E8500 to I7 920 OC'd to 3.8. It's my guess that the new 35-45NM ain't gonna make more than 1-2 % difference. If it's worth $1100 to gain 1-2% your an idiot/moron.

Too much power 3/21/2010

Pros: What do you do with this? This is too much power for games or movies. Get the i5 for games and movies. Get the i7 for 3d modeling autocad ect...

Cons: nothing just don't spend the money on this unless you really need this much power.

Other Thoughts: i know there are some graphics limitations to the i5 chip set that are not present in the x58 chip set. This should not matter to anyone who just wants to do something. If your goal is the best then pay for the best. If your goal is just to do the things you normally do then get the i5.
