Where to Buy
Energy efficiency is important to AMD, allowing you to enjoy a cool, quiet PC while saving energy and reducing heat, noise and the effect of your computer on the environment. Energy efficiency innovations include Cool’n’Quiet and AMD CoolCore. These technologies reduce power consumption and processor activity.
AMD Phenom II processors also offer support for Virtualization Technology. You can run virtual environments on one system with ease, allowing you to use legacy programs on a separate operating system. Add the convenience and power of multi-core processing and enjoy the benefits of energy efficiency with an AMD Phenom II X4 965 today!
Very happy with this CPU

Pros: Fast CPU, (low cost MB's watch for combo deals :)) for the money no doubt. C3, 125 w, (vs old 140w) unlocked, easy OC 3.5-3.8 DTR.
The pros below along with other research (cost) help make my decision for the AMD 965 BE for what fit me no doubt.
Anandtech Final Words
Without a doubt the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition is faster than anything you can get that fits into an LGA-775 socket at a remotely similar price point. AMD has done its duty well there, the 965 is clearly a better option than the Q9550 or Q9650 for that matter.
As a gaming CPU, it's actually competitive with the i7s. If you exclude the FarCry 2 results, which I hardly believe are representative of most games, the Phenom II X4 965 is easily just as good of a gaming CPU as an i7 in today's titles.
Cons: None I can think of. I went with an ATI 4670 1GB His Q before I upgraded to the 965 because I wanted quiet. Then decide to go 965 and had some concerns of reading the fan was loud. To my surprise this fan is only a little louder than my previous stock AMD CPU HSF very happy and did not turn out to be a problem for me its not as loud as I feared reading here!. But I guess its subjective and it depends on the person.

Very, Very Loud. But Great Performance
By JungleAnimal on 3/31/2010
Pros: Exceptional price to performance. That is the reason I bought AMD. World of Warcraft on high settings barely cracks 30% CPU and gets upwards of 160fps when my cable internet isn't lagging. I haven't had a chance to really tax the CPU but I will get around to it this week with some dual screen sessions I'm sure.
Cons: I don't know how to say this nicely. WOWSERS the stock cpu fan is loud!!! I came from an intel Core 2 E6600 and I couldn't even hear the fan in my antec case. Also, because of the variable rate of the fan speed depending on cpu load and heat it is even more annoying. It sounds like a blender muffled inside the case that gets louder and softer multiple times per minute. The cpu fan is the only reason I gave it 4 eggs as the performance is exactly what I expected. I did a lot of internet research, reading benchmark tech sites and decided on AMD because of the price/performance when compared to intel. I had no idea I was going to get a fan that sounds like the fury of a scorned woman inside my computer case. I will definitely be searching for a quiet aftermarket cooler. Keep this in mind if your computer is in proximity to you, as most are. I almost want to put it on the other side of the wall and run my cables through the wall to dampen the noise. I am not exaggerating.
Other Thoughts: Good performance, loud stock fan. Maybe that is the price you pay for top of the line processing power but it caught me off guard.
